Looking upriver from where I dug out Number 56.
Taken September 30, 2009

Number 56 in its unnatural habitat.

Its brand name was Wards Riverside. How ironic.

After digging out almost all the muck from its innards with a small spade,
I heaved it on end up against the canoe and finished cleaning out the muck.
This makes it easier for the recyclers, and protects my car from the dirt.

It was too heavy and awkward to lift into the boat, especially since it was too big to fit inside!

So I slid it on top of my boat and paddled out to the road. I was careful not to rock the boat,
I didn't want it to slide back into the river after all my grunt work.

Here's proof this tire was recycled, as it sits by the tire pile
awaiting transport to the recycling plant.
It is the heaviest tire I have removed single-handed.
